Living with CHD

Living with a heart condition can be an understandable source of stress and worry. If you have experienced a cardiac event, your fears and worries can be intensified significantly.

Sometimes the stress of heart problems can make it even more difficult to look after our health and wellbeing. It can be more difficult to eat well, see friends, sleep well, or go for a walk when we are feeling worried or low. Learning ways to manage worry and low mood can often lead to feeling more able to look after our physical wellbeing too.

For some people stress and anxiety can contribute to their heart. For example, when you are stressed you may smoke more or when you are anxious your blood pressure may go up.

There is a strong link between emotional wellbeing and general good health. Improving one will improve the other.
