Treatment Delivery

How can you receive treatment from the Norfolk and Waveney Talking Therapies?

CBT can be delivered in the following ways:

  • Online workshops ( known as webinars)
  • 1:1 Video or telephone sessions with a clinician
  • 1:1 Face to face (for some therapies with a clinician)

Online

Online Workshops

Online workshops allow you to access psychoeducational, CBT based sessions via a webinar.

We offer one off workshops where you can attend without needing an assessment with the service. After you've registered, you will be sent a link which allows you to access the webinar on your computer / laptop / tablet or phone.

Other workshops take place as a series over 3-4 weeks, and are a complete treatment following assessment of your needs / next steps.

The workshops are presented by Talking Therapies staff, and are designed to be interactive. None of the other participants or staff will be able to see or hear you, but you will have the opportunity to ask questions via a chat system that only the Talking Therapies staff can see. They will never identify you, but will either respond to you privately via the chat , or will speak in the group about the point you have raised, or the question you have asked. There is a good chance that others are thinking the same thing! So they might say something like: 'Someone has made the point that ' or 'Someone has asked if does anyone else have this issue? ' This means you can be involved and actively take part, completely anonymously.

If you'd rather not contribute, that's completely fine too. You are welcome to sit and watch and hear what other people have said via the staff delivering the webinar.

Most of the webinars have a Peer Support Worker on the team, who has lived experience of mental health problems and recovery, so you will have the chance to ask them questions too.

Video or Telephone

Treatment can be delivered by video link (a bit like Skype). We use Microsoft Teams. It will allow you to see each other on the screen so you have the benefit of face to face working, but without having to leave your home!

Treatment can also be delivered by telephone, for those that prefer not to use video

Face to face

In a group:

We run courses and groups that you can either attend at your own discretion or be booked onto by our clinicians. You can contact us to find out which courses and groups you can attend and which ones we would like to speak to you first about. You can view our range of courses and workshops here.

Some of our Peer Support Workers attended Talking Therapies workshops as part of their recovery journey with us. We asked them to give us some comments about their experiences:

  • I was welcomed by friendly staff and the group felt informal. I could talk if I wanted by contributing to the group discussion, but there was no pressure to do so at all if I didn't feel like talking.
  • The information was given by PowerPoint and there was some group discussion. Everyone who was attending was in the same boat and could relate to feeling depressed/anxious.
  • There was a Peer Support Worker who was co-delivering the workshop and this made me feel at ease, knowing there was a member of staff there who had genuinely been there themselves.
  • The information was broken-down week by week and easy to follow and process. The homework was given to help develop our skills but there was no pressure if we hadn't done it and no one checked or marked our homework!
  • The workshop was interesting and helpful for my recovery. The workshops are based on CBT which is one of the most effective types of therapy for most people (which is why the NHS invest in it and offer it free of charge)
  • It was comforting to be in a room with others who were feeling like me - it made me realise I was not the only one feeling this way and I was not alone.

One-to-one:

This is exactly as you would expect. You meet your therapist in a location convenient to both of you and receive psychological therapy in the traditional way.
